Rehabilitation of Highway 401WB Collectors

PROJECT BACKGROUND

The Ministry of Transportation (MTO) has awarded a construction contract to Dufferin Construction Co. Ltd. to perform rehabilitation and widening of the Hwy. 401 WB Collector Lanes between Keele St. and Kipling Ave. URS Canada Inc. has been selected to provide Construction Administration services on behalf of the MTO. This website will serve to provide relevant and timely project information to motorists and all stakeholders.

The purpose of the project is to extend the service life of the infrastructure, enhance public safety, provide additional traffic capacity, and improve the highway's level of service.

The project's highway and bridge upgrades will be completed in three main stages over four construction seasons and will include pavement reconstruction along Hwy. 401 and at interchanges, highway widening to provide an additional lane between Hwy. 400 and Kipling Ave., rehabilitation of 14 bridges and retaining walls, replacement of steel beam guiderail with concrete barrier wall, storm drainage improvements, installation and upgrading of roadway illumination and traffic signals, and localized landscaping enhancements.

The construction work commenced in the Spring of 2010 and is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2013.
